Samsung Galaxy Note 6 to feature a slimmer 5.8 inch curved display

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 6 phablet may actually get a specifications bump with its display and battery capacity if the new rumors coming from SamMobile turn out to be true. The post claims that Samsung is testing out two display form factors for its upcoming phablet flagship and that both pack in a sizeable 4000mAh battery.

Samsung could be not just be launching its productive road warrior a bit earlier this year, but could also be packing in some unique specifications. The source reports that Samsung is experimenting with both a flat and a curved display, but that only one of them will make it as the final design.

Both displays sport Quad HD resolution and are 5.8 inches in size. While the difference between the currently available Note 5 is barely 0.1 inch, there is something new to go with this as well. Samsung is tagging its panel as a ‘Slim RGB’ display that should not just make the panel lighter but also make more room for the bigger 4000mAh battery that is expected to share that space as well.

Samsung has always gone in for a smaller capacity battery in the past to ensure that the phablet (that was once considered gigantic) is also not too heavy like those of the past. The 4000mAh battery is expected to pack in some amount of heft and Samsung seems to have found a solution by creating a slimmer display panel. For now, let’s just hope that weight remains in check and the Note 6 does not end up like the plethora of Chinese smartphones that promise long standby times with weight being the obvious compromise.

As for the remainder of the specs, we can now also expect Samsung to pack in 6GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The test models are said to feature an Exynos 8890 and Snapdragon 820 SoCs both of which run Android-N.
